Change Coming October 1 to Alliance’s Coaxial Cable TV System

Encryption and replacement parts for Alliance’s RF coaxial cable TV system will no longer be available this fall. As a result, Alliance can no longer offer RF coaxial cable TV as of October 1, 2024. Alliance began communicating this change with impacted customers in June through letters, emails, and bill messages. Each customer received a minimum of five notifications. Additionally, Alliance held several educational sessions throughout the summer and fall to help customers pick a new option for their TV service. If you’re still exploring your options for TVs connected to coaxial cable jacks, review our suggestions below.

How do I know if a TV is connected to RF coaxial cable?

Your TV is connected to RF coaxial cable if the cord from your TV screws into a round jack on the wall.

What are some options for televisions connected to coaxial cable TV

Over-the-air antenna
Using an antenna is the most economical option, and you can purchase one online or in stores. Local TV channels are available for free in uncompressed HD quality with an over-the-air antenna. Broadcast towers for the Sioux Falls area offer FREE reception to most customers. Reception beyond the immediate Sioux Falls area is often unavailable or requires a high-gain antenna and proper placement.

Streaming services
Most content that’s available on cable TV is also on streaming services, and you could transition some or all TVs to streaming. Using a streaming service requires an internet connection. If you want to view some or all the local ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC stations, we recommend you try YouTube TV, Hulu Live, Paramount+, or FuboTV. Learn more about streaming options at gostreamnow.com/alliance. Many streaming services have a free trial period, which allows you to explore your options before purchasing something from them.

To help you transition to streaming, you can try a faster internet speed for no additional cost for two months. And if you need a more powerful router, you can try our GigaSpire Blast router risk free for two months. Give us a call for full details on these promotions.

Alliance’s AllStream Now
You could convert some or all TVs to Alliance’s AllStream Now. You’ll need an Alliance Internet connection, and your entertainment will be accessible to you via the AllStream app on smartphones, tablets, and Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K streaming devices.

AllStream Now is a self-install service. You will pay the cost of your programming package plus $12/month. Then you can watch programming on five devices at the same time, and you can add AllStream to a total of 20 devices. Plus, you’ll receive 80 hours of DVR space and one complimentary Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K. Call us at (605) 582-6311 if you’re interested in AllStream Now.

We know our RF coaxial cable TV service is a convenient option for many customers, but unfortunately, the technology is becoming obsolete. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at (605) 582-6311.
