Change to Recording Capabilities

If you record programs on standard definition channels, please update your recording settings.

For many years, we’ve offered recording capabilities on both standard and high-definition channels to accommodate the different television styles in customers’ homes. For example, customers could record Survivor on channel 3 or 303. Because most customers have upgraded to high-definition televisions, they no longer need recording capability on standard-definition channels.

Starting Wednesday, May 15, 2024, recording capability will no longer be available on the standard-definition channels included on the list below. As you scroll down, you’ll also find instructions for setting up recordings on the high-definition channels.

To ensure this change doesn’t disrupt your viewing habits, please make sure you’re only recording shows on high-definition channels. For example, if you record Yellowstone on Paramount Network’s standard-definition channel 46, you need to start recording it on high-definition channel 346 instead.

If a channel is only available in standard definition, you don’t need to change your recording settings.

Removing recording capabilities on standard definition channels will help us responsibly manage the servers that store your Cloud DVR recordings because we’ll no longer have duplicate copies of the same program. Purchasing additional servers is expensive and increases costs for our customers.

If you have questions, call 611 from any phone with Alliance service or (605) 582-6311. We’re happy to help.

How to Create a Recording on High-Definition Channels

Step 1. Press the Guide button on your Alliance remote. When the Guide appears, use the arrow buttons to highlight the program for which you want to create a series recording. You may need to scroll out a day or two. To move through the guide quicker, you can use the Day+, Day-, Page+, or Page- buttons.

IMPORTANT: When you look for your programs, make sure you’re using the high-definition channels, which typically have channel numbers of above 300. In the picture below, we want to create a series recording of “Let’s Make a Deal” on high-definition channel 303, not channel 3.

Step 2. After you highlight the program for which you want to make a series recording, press the record button.

Step 3. Use the arrow buttons to highlight Series, and then arrow down to Create Series Recording.

Step 4. Repeat the process for each series recording you want to create. If you need help, don’t hesitate to call (605) 582-6311.
