From time to time, Alliance adjusts our Internet speed packages to ensure we’re providing you with the bandwidth you need now and years into the future. This fall we transitioned customers to higher Internet speeds for no additional charge.

To maximize your new speed, you'll want to make sure your equipment can keep up. Just like computers and cell phones, wireless routers should be updated about every three years. The tips below will help you decide if you need a new router.

Yes, you need a new router if...
• Your router uses A, B, G or N wireless standards. (They can’t process faster speeds.)
• You don’t like installing software updates to your router.

No, you probably don't need a new router if...
• You have a new AC or AX router that’s less than 2-3 years old.
• The uplink/internet port can support speeds of at least 250 Mbps.
• You’re capable of installing router software updates by yourself.

What kind of router do you need to support faster Internet speeds?
• AC or AX router that supports 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz
• The uplink/internet port can support speeds of at least 250 Mbps.

For residential customers, Alliance can help if you need a new router and aren’t comfortable installing it by yourself. Click here for information on Alliance’s residential Whole Home Wi-Fi. Business customers should call to discuss the available options. Dial 611 from any phone with Alliance service or (605) 582-6311 from your cell phone.
